Trump in Violation of Constitution on Day One ?

Donald John Wesley (Kerr in Scotland)

Could Donald Trump be in violation of the Constitution on his first day in office?

That’s the conclusion of some leading constitutional law experts.

The Constitution prohibits officeholders from accepting "any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state."

Law experts say many of Trump’s businesses are already benefiting from his presidency. Kuwait, for example, recently moved its National Celebration Day from the Four Seasons in Georgetown to the Trump International Hotel instead.

According to ThinkProgress, Kuwait faced political pressure from the Trump camp to move the location. Other diplomats have reportedly been urged to hold events at Trump’s hotel. Trump and his family also have holdings or projects in Argentina, Brazil, Georgia, India, Ireland, Japan, Philippines and Turkey. In addition, Trump’s businesses owe hundreds of millions of dollars to foreign banks, including Deutsche Bank, UBS and Bank of China.

We speak to 'Richard Painter', professor of corporate law at the University of Minnesota.
He was the chief White House ethics lawyer for President George W. Bush from February 2005 to July 2007.

Why do we care more about winning than playing by the rules ?

Description
Why do we care more about winning than about playing by the rules?

Integrity - all of us are in favor of it, but nobody seems to know how to make sure that we get it. From presidential candidates to crusading journalists to the lords of collegiate sports, everybody promises to deliver integrity, yet all too often, the promises go unfulfilled.

Stephen Carter examines why the virtue of integrity holds such sway over the American political imagination. By weaving together insights from philosophy, theology, history and law, along with examples drawn from current events and a dose of personal experience, Carter offers a vision of integrity that has implications for everything from marriage and politics to professional football. He discusses the difficulties involved in trying to legislate integrity as well as the possibilities for teaching it.

As the Cleveland Plain Dealer said, "In a measured and sensible voice, Carter attempts to document some of the paradoxes and pathologies that result from pervasive ethical realism... If the modern drift into relativism has left us in a cultural and political morass, Carter suggests that the assumption of personal integrity is the way out

=============================================

Stephen L. Carter is the William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Law at Yale, where he has taught for almost thirty years.  He is also the author of seven acclaimed works of nonfiction, and three bestselling novels.

He was the second of five children of Lisle and Emily Carter.  Born in Washington, D.C., Carter was educated in the public schools of Washington, New York City, and Ithaca, New York.

He received his bachelor’s degree in history from Stanford in 1976, graduating with Honors and Distinction.  In 1979, he received his law degree from Yale, where he was a Notes Editor of the Yale Law Journal.  Following law school, he served as a law clerk for Judge Spottswood W. Robinson, III, of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and then to Justice Thurgood Marshall of the Supreme Court of the United States.

At Yale, Carter teaches courses on law and religion, intellectual property, contracts, professional responsibility, lying and secrets, and the ethics of warfare.  He has published dozens of articles in law reviews, and many op-ed columns in the nation’s leading newspapers.  He appears frequently on radio and television.

Among his nonfiction books are The Culture of Disbelief: How American Law and Politics Trivialize Religious Devotion (1993); Civility: Manners, Morals, and the Etiquette of Democracy (1998);  and God’s Name in Vain: The Wrongs and Rights of Religion in Politics (2000).

His first novel, The Emperor of Ocean Park (2002), spent eleven weeks on the New York Times best-seller list.  His fifth novel, The Impeachment of Abraham Lincoln, will be published in July of 2012.

Professor Carter is a member of numerous learned societies.  He has received eight honorary degrees.  He and his wife Enola G. Aird have two children, now in their twenties.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s - Letter from Birmingham Jail

Published on Aug 25, 2014
On Feb. 24, 2014, the Aspen Institute held an event at the Washington National Cathedral commemorating 50 years of featuring Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from Birmingham Jail" in the Aspen Seminar.

With a discussion led by Aspen Institute President and CEO Walter Isaacson, the talk featured some of the country's greatest thinkers: civil rights leader Julian Bond, US Poet Laureate Natasha Tretheway, Dean of the Washington National Cathedral Rev. Gary Hall, and Yale Law professor Stephen L. Carter.

Carter’s previous novel was an intriguing alternate history that imagined The Impeachment of Abraham Lincoln; now, the Yale law professor revisits the Cuban Missile Crisis. Adding Margo Jensen, a Cornell undergraduate, to the cast of historical figures, Carter concocts a deft political and psychological thriller in which Jensen shuttles among world capitals as a liaison—and sometimes more—between Kennedy and Khrushchev.

The Common Character Trait of Geniuses

Published on Jan 10, 2014
Geniuses like Isaac Newton and Richard Feynman both had the ability to concentrate with a sort of intensity that is hard for mortals to grasp.
Transcript -- I'm tempted to say smart, creative people have no particularly different set of character traits than the rest of us except for being smart and creative, and those being character traits. Then, on the other hand, I wrote a biography of Richard Feynman and a biography of Isaac Newton. Now, there are two great scientific geniuses whose characters were in some superficial ways completely different. Isaac Newton was solitary, antisocial, I think unpleasant, bitter, fought with his friends as much as with his enemies. Richard Feynman was gregarious, funny, a great dancer, loved women. Isaac Newton, I believe, never had sex. Richard Feynman, I believe, had plenty. So you can't generalize there.
On the other hand, they were both, as I tried to get in their heads, understand their minds, the nature of their genius, I sort of felt I was seeing things that they had in common, and they were things that had to do with aloneness. Newton was much more obviously alone than Feynman, but Feynman didn't particularly work well with others. He was known as a great teacher, but he wasn't a great teacher, I don't think, one on one. I think he was a great lecturer. I think he was a great communicator. But when it came time to make the great discoveries of science, he was alone in his head. Now, when I say he, I mean both Feynman and Newton, and this applies, also, I think, to the geniuses that I write about in The Information, Charles Babbage, Alan Turing, Ada Byron. They all had the ability to concentrate with a sort of intensity that is hard for mortals like me to grasp, a kind of passion for abstraction that doesn't lend itself to easy communication, I don't think.

Howard Hughes

American business tycoon, entrepreneur, investor, aviator, aerospace engineer, inventor, filmmaker and philanthropist. During his lifetime, he was known as one of the wealthiest self-made people in the world. As a maverick film tycoon, Hughes gained prominence in Hollywood from the late 1920s, making big-budget and often controversial films like The Racket (1928), Hell's Angels (1930), Scarface (1932), and The Outlaw (1943).
Subsequently, he formed the Hughes Aircraft Company and hired numerous engineers and designers. He spent the rest of the 1930s setting multiple world air speed records, built the Hughes H-1 Racer and H-4 "Hercules" (better known to history as the "Spruce Goose" aircraft), and acquired and expanded Trans World Airlines (TWA), which was later acquired by and merged with American Airlines.[4] Hughes also acquired Air West and renamed it Hughes Airwest. This airline was eventually acquired by and merged into Republic Airlines (1979–1986).
Hughes was included in the Flying magazine list of the 51 Heroes of Aviation, ranking at No. 25.[5] He is remembered for his eccentric behavior and reclusive lifestyle in later life, caused in part by a worsening obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) and chronic pain.

"This is one gentlemans essay examining dysfunction in the divorce court in Quebec which cycles out your wealth daily into their pockets and incarcerates you into a state of homelessness; it does it's operations as a Value-Adding-System and adds a value adding tax to your bill, until you are penniless. It is a heartless system of anything but logic for you, it is a roulette wheel that has been fixed so that you never win, and it is heads they win and tails you lose system, especially if you are a male. It devastates you in the process, and he is not alone, according to many police observers."
