If you come in suffering from depression, bipolar or schizophrenia, chances are the first thing you will be given are psych meds, but sometimes what needs to be addressed is an underlying infection. It has been known for a long time that certain infectious illnesses can trigger psychiatric symptoms. New research is showing just how strong this link is and how, surprisingly, even schizophrenia can sometimes be put in remission with antibiotics instead of psych meds. This is important information for anyone dealing with a serious psychiatric condition and I'm glad to see more awareness of this is spreading.
